what is the difference between SOOW & SJOOW portable cord?

It can be seen that SJOOW has more J than SOOW, which means J-Junior service, rated to 300 volts. Therefore, SOOW has a thicker sheath than SJOOW, and the operating voltage is higher, which can reach 600v. Of course, SOOW is more expensive than SJOOW because it requires more materials to manufacture.

SOOW and SJOOW cords are identical in most respects; they are both flexible, stranded multi conductor cables insulated with a synthetic rubber. They have heavy-duty thermo set jackets, which resist water, oils, solvents, sunlight, ozone, weather, and abrasion. Both are rated from -40°C to +90°C.

SJOOW Cable Uses & Applications

Thanks to its literally dual layer of protection from the elements – both through the CPE jacket on the outside and EPDM insulation on the inside – SJOOW cable is pretty much ready for any situation, both inside and out.  

For contractors, SJOOW electrical cable is a great option for supplying power to portable equipment and tools, as well as appliances that need to be moved about, and smaller machinery and motors. However, it can also be used for more powerful applications -- it can handle larger construction tools and equipment used in heavier industrial projects.

Outside of construction, the thermoset jacket on the outside of the SJOOW cable makes it a great candidate for really tough jobs that can also be quite messy, such as mining and oil processing. Plus the jacket is also resistant to chemicals and acids, making it excellent for hazardous applications.

It can be used with push-button remove controls, and both decorative and movable lighting systems. And you can get techy with it as it's a great option for powering things like data centers and IT installations.

And some SJOOW cables are rated water submersible, allowing them to be used in marine projects – like applications where you would need power at a boat dock or submersible pumps – as you don't have to worry about water destroying the cable.
